Insurance Coverage Attorney

An AmLaw firm is seeking insurance coverage opinion and litigation attorneys to handle ongoing matters on a per project basis. Candidates will be expected to take lead responsibility regarding assigned matters. 

The firm would prefer candidates based in Dallas, TX and the surrounding area but will also consider remote candidates in other locations.

Prerequisites

  • 3+ years of experience drafting coverage opinions and managing related litigation regarding commercial and corporate property, casualty and D&O insurance policies
  • Education requirement: J.D.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing in any US jurisdiction

Functions & Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpreting insurance policies, providing assessments of coverage scope and limitations (e.g coverage opinions and memoranda).
  • Interpret and apply detailed regulations, create policies, guidelines, playbooks, compliance manuals, and procedures based on regulations.
  • Interpret rules and regulations and compliance requirements as applied to insurance matters, including completing registrations and communicating with regulatory bodies regarding compliance with insurance regulations.
  • Conduct necessary and appropriate discovery, hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations and similar proceedings.
  • Review policies and facts surrounding a claim or loss, advising on claim presentation, and negotiating, mediating, and litigating disputes related to any such claim or loss.
  • Draft and present risk assessments, analyzing activities or operations in light of relevant regulations.
  • Advise, communicate and confer with claims representatives and insured parties, rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and advice.
  • Provide advice and counsel regarding relevant insurance regulations and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise clients concerning business transactions, claim liability, policy coverage and limitations, regulatory compliance matters, or legal rights and obligations.
  • Interpret laws, rulings and regulations for individuals and businesses.
  • Analyze the probable outcomes of matters, using knowledge of legal precedents.
  • Familiarity with research software such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
