Local Counsel - Western District of North Carolina

A firm is looking for local counsel to assist their firm with matters in the Western District of North Carolina. Candidates should be experienced legal professionals, actively barred in the United States. 

Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Make appearances in court and participate in voir dire and jury selection.
  • Interviewing clients and witnesses, and prepare expert witnesses for trial.
  • Negotiate settlements of cases, and perform any necessary legal research.
  • Manage a team of attorneys and coverage counsel.
  • Preparing summaries for client review.
  • Drafting legal correspondence to be sent to opposing counsel.
  • Examine legal data to determine the advisability of defending or prosecuting the lawsuit.
  • Evaluate findings and develop strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.
  • Analyze the probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents.
  • Advise clients concerning business transactions, claim liability, the advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, or legal rights and obligations.


  • 3 years of experience as local counsel and making court appearances
  • Knowledge of local and state law and procedures regarding civil litigation
  • Experience drafting pleadings and motions, propounding and responding to written discovery, etc.
  • Able to prepare legal briefs and opinions, and file appeals in state and federal courts of appeal.
  • Experience in presenting and summarizing cases to judges and juries, preparing legal briefs and opinions, examining legal data to determine the advisability of defending or prosecuting cases.

  • Analyzing information and using logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Consistent dependability; must be reliable and responsible at fulfilling obligations and show a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
  • The ability to decipher patterns and draw analogies.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and social perceptiveness, being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
